QC barangays get real property tax share

-
Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. recently turned over P46 million to the city’s 142 barangay executives their barangays’ share in the real property taxes for the second quarter of the year.

This brought to P1.81 billion the total amount turned over to the city barangays since Belmonte assumed office in 2001.

Making up the top 10 in the list in the latest fund releases are barangays Bagumbayan (P1.43 million), Loyola Heights (P1.35 million), Piñahan (P949,070.98), Socorro (P848,149.05), South Triangle (P839,123.75), Apolonio Samson (P800,465.38), Kaunlaran (P799,877.64), Matandang Balara (P768,235.08), Ugong Norte (P765,374.92) and Greater Lagro (P702,229.67).

Bagumbayan, considered as the city’s industrial center, along with Barangays Ugong Norte and Socorro, continue to enjoy the biggest real property tax share among the city’s barangays for the past six years.

"We are happy to see that many of these funds are translated into thriving projects that add to what the city government can do to address the needs of its constituents," Belmonte said.

He reminded barangay chairmen to allocate their money on worthwhile projects beneficial to constituents.

The Local Government Code of 1991 provides that 30 percent of real property taxes collected go to barangays.

It is only during Belmonte’s administration that the barangays are getting their share. Poor fiscal management had hampered its distribution during the previous administration.

The city government usually remits a bigger share to the barangays during the first quarter when city residents usually settle their annual real property tax obligations. Perseus Echeminada
