Metro to have 2 new police district directors

Two ranking police officials will assume command of two police districts of the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) on Monday.

Chief Superintendents Roberto Rosales and Pedro Tango will take command of the Southern and Northern Police Districts, respectively.

Deputy Director General Avelino Razon Jr., deputy director for administration of the Philippine National Police (PNP), confirmed that their appointment papers have already been issued.

"There is already an order for their assumption of the said posts but I do not know when the turnover of command would take place," Razon told The STAR.

He said that the promotions of Rosales and Tango are part of a revamp initiated by PNP chief Director General Oscar Calderon last month due to the retirement of several police officials.

"This is just part of the first wave of revamp initiated by Gen. Calderon but was postponed because of various reasons," said Razon, also the chairman of the PNP’s Senior Officers’ Placement and Promotions Board, which screens police nominees for promotions.

NCRPO chief Director Reynaldo Varilla said a simple turnover ceremony for Rosales and Tango at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City will be held on Monday.

"My men are getting ready for the turnover ceremony on Monday. But I am still waiting for instructions from higher headquarters to that effect," Varilla pointed out.

Varilla said Rosales and Tango have outstanding service records in terms of accomplishments in the campaign against illegal drugs.

Rosales will replace Chief Superintendent Ricardo Padilla, who was promoted as the new commander of the Police Regional Office 5 in Bicol.

Padilla replaces Chief Superintendent Victor Boco, who is scheduled to retire in January.

Tango will assume the post vacated by Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil, who was designated earlier as the new chief in the Ilocos region.

Rosales graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1978, while both Padilla and Tango graduated in 1977.

Meanwhile, Razon said Senior Superintendent Don Montenegro was named chief of staff of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) vice Senior Superintendent Raul Castañeda, who will be given an executive office post at the PNP national headquarters in Camp Crame.

Castañeda is a classmate of Rosales in the PMA. Montenegro graduated from the military academy in 1981.

Razon said there is already a replacement for Tango but he refused to give details.
