San Miguel sales rep shot dead

- Jerry Botial -
A sales representative of food conglomerate San Miguel Corp. was shot dead by two gunmen on a motorcycle as he left his house yesterday in Caloocan City.

Chief Inspector Jose Valencia, Station Investigation Branch chief, said the motive for the killing initially pointed to a love triangle.

The victim’s relatives told police investigators that an obsessed Pakistani businessman — now the subject of a manhunt — was madly pursuing the victim’s wife and he wanted the husband, Rosendo Kho To, out of the way.

SPO1 Raymond Mendoza, officer-on-case, said two men tailed To, 29, as he left his rented house in Barangay 102 after 7 a.m.

As he was walking, the men, believed to be hired guns, tailed him on a scooter with no license plates.

At an isolated portion in the area, the hit man alighted from the vehicle and pulled a gun tucked in his waist. To saw him and ran but he was cornered near a basketball court in Barrio Galino Extension on 9th Avenue, East Grace Park Subdivision.

The gunman fired several shots, hitting him fatally in the head. Police investigators later found a gunshot wound in the left palm of his hand, indicating he could have tried to parry the bullets in a futile attempt to protect himself.

Recovered from the crime scene were three empty shells from a 9 mm pistol.

The police said the victim was receiving death threats on his cell phone in the past several days. To had changed residences several times, first in Bulacan, then in Valenzuela City and finally in Caloocan City, as a precaution.

The victim’s wife, a businesswoman, does business in Hong Kong and other Asian cities where she and the suspect likely first met, the police said. — With Pete Laude
