Army man shoots garbage collector

Claiming self-defense, a technical sergeant of the Philippine Army surrendered to authorities after he shot an 18-year-old garbage collector in the leg in Makati City last Sunday night.
The victim, identified as Romualdo Frias of Barangay West Rembo, is currently receiving treatment at the Ospital ng Makati.
Sgt. Juanito Nacario, 42, turned himself in and filed a complaint against the garbage collector, who allegedly attacked him with a 20-inch bolo.
Reports from the Makati City Police Department said the incident happened at around 7:50 p.m. along Kalayaan Avenue, Barangay West Rembo where the Army man resides.
Nacario, detailed at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) general headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, said he was forced to shoot the victim to defend himself.
Police were able to recover the firearm used, a caliber .45 pistol, as well as the bolo that Frias allegedly used.
Investigators have yet to determine why the garbage collector attacked Nacario.
