3 nabbed for Paco barangay tanod’s slay

- Nestor Etolle -
Three teen members of a street gang, who were reportedly responsible for killing a barangay tanod in Paco, Manila almost five months ago, were arrested in a joint police-barangay operations the other night.

The arrest of three members of the notorious Original Gang Devil (ODG), who were allegedly involved in a series of criminal acts in Paco, was a result of the intensified campaign against lawless elements by operatives of the District Police Intelligence Unit (DPIU), led by Senior Inspector Baltazar Beran, according to Manila Police District (MPD) acting director Senior Superintendent Danilo Abarzosa.

Beran and his men, together with barangay tanods, swooped down on the lairs of suspected ODG members, following reports of rampant robbery-holdups in the area.

During the operation, three youths, aged 16 and 17, were positively identified by the holdup victims. Seized from them were two fan knives.

The 17-year-old gang leader, although in handcuffs, tried to run away but did not escape the wrath of the chasing mob. He was subsequently turned over to the police after he was beaten by irate residents.

During investigation, the barangay chairman identified the three as the youths who shot to death George Dorero, 49, and seriously injured three others in an attack at the barangay hall last May 26.
