Binay to conduct own Glean probe

After rejecting the idea of working with Task Force Pablo Glean, Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay announced yesterday he will conduct his own investigation into the killing of his top security officer.

"The police have already made up their minds in connection with the possible reason behind the murder, but I will not stop until the persons who are really behind the killing are identified," he told newsmen in his weekly press briefing.

Binay said his camp has witnesses and leads that will help identify the perpetrators of the "politically motivated" slay of his trusted man.

He said the probe will be conducted without the help of the Southern Police District’s task force or any other probe body.

"We will also look into the possible link of his slay to the threats we are now receiving," he said, referring to reported plots to kill him.

Binay, who is also president of the United Opposition (Uno), said her eldest daughter Nancy Angeles was recently approached by unidentified individuals who asked her personal questions.

He likewise bared how members of Glean’s family have been receiving threats since the killing.

Binay maintains that his chief security’s murder had something to do with politics while police believe it was in connection with an internal problem within the Philippine Guardians Brotherhood Inc.

SPD-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group officer-in-charge Superintendent Bernardo Tambaoan earlier disclosed how the investigation is leading toward more personal motives, including vendetta.

He urged Binay to share information with Task Force Glean so that the political angle can be looked into, but the mayor has rejected the offer.
