Free movies for QC’s elderly

- Perseus Echeminada -
Good news to Quezon City senior citizens.

A resolution granting them free admission in movie houses during the first screening hour has been approved by the 26-member City Council.

The measure, authored by Councilor Jorge "Bolet" Banal Jr., was described as a fitting gesture of acknowledging the vital contribution of senior citizens in the task of propelling the city to progress.

Some 162,996 registered senior citizens in the city are expected to benefit from the special privilege.

The adoption of Resolution SP-3249, S-2006 came after the city government signed an agreement with the National Cinema Association of the Philippines (NCAP) to facilitate the free administration of the city’s elderly in all Shoemart, Ali Mall and Gateway cinemas in Quezon City during their first screening hour, usually at 10 a.m.

This special privilege, however, can only be availed by senior citizens during Mondays and Tuesdays.

Meanwhile, Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. joined NCAP director Ed Gaudier in distributing inaugural passes to the city’s elderly during the observance of the Philippine Councilors Week celebration in Quezon City.

During the occasion, the mayor assured senior citizens of the city government’s continuing commitment to support their plight, encouraging them "to continue to remain competitive, useful and productive despite their old age."

Conrad Buenaventura, head of the city’s senior citizens affairs office, represented the city government during the agreement signing.
