Pasay shuts down Star City

- Rhodina Villanueva -
Acting Pasay Mayor Allan Panaligan has ordered the suspension of the operations of Star City following the latest incident involving one of its rides last Monday night.

A three-year old girl from Malabon was traumatized after sparks flew and smoke started rising from the bump car she was riding at 7 p.m.

The mayor said the amusement park would be closed until all rides have passed inspection.

"We have to first look into the incident and the reasons why the Kiddie Bumper Ride malfunctioned. Whatever needs to be repaired should be repaired," Panaligan said.

The girl’s uncle told Senior Police Officer 2 Ferdinand Tañada of the Pasay Police Community Precinct 1 that his niece got out of the ride with a terrified look on her face.

Panaligan said that while the girl was not physically hurt in the incident, it was the trauma which she underwent that relatives are most concerned about.

"There is a need for Star City management to carefully check the rides and attractions they are offering the public so that accidents can be avoided," the mayor said.

The incident occurred a week after another girl fell to her death while on the park’s "Wild River" boat ride. The girl reportedly panicked and stood up while the ride was at its peak and tried to get off.
