Man jumps from Mandaluyong condo

- Non Alquitran -
Depression and personal problems drove a 21-year-old scion of a prominent family to take his own life by jumping from the 16th floor of a condominium building in Mandaluyong City last Sunday.

Vincent Meily, a resident of the City Land Wack-Wack Royal Mansion, sustained head and body injuries from the fall. He died on the spot.

The victim’s family asked the local police to declare the case closed as they declined to provide details on the young man’s death.

"The family took custody and disposition of the victim’s body," said Superintendent Ericson Velasquez, Mandaluyong City police chief. "We heeded the family’s request."

Velasquez said the victim was left alone in the family’s condo unit last Sunday and jumped out the window at about 7:30 p.m.

PO3 Jessie Telan said security guard Bennin Agre was manning his post at the entrance of the adjacent Wack-Wack apartments when he heard a loud thud on the roof of the building.

He rushed to the third floor of the building to investigate and saw considerable damage on a large portion of the roof of Unit No. 7. On the roof was a pair of slippers.

Agre quickly informed Royal Mansion security guards Roland Ang-og and Reynante Torrefie of what he saw, and together they proceeded to the damaged unit. The tenant led them to the body of Meily.

"Depressed daw ang bata ng nakalipas na mga araw. Hindi natin masabi kung ano ang personal niyang problema dahil ayaw magsalita ng pamilya niya," Velasquez said.

He said Meily often threatened to jump out the window each time he wasn’t in a good mood.

"The family probably got accustomed to his threats and dismissed it. It so happens, that Meily made good his threat while they were away," the police chief said.

The victim left no suicide note.
