QCPU gets P15-million scholarship fund

- Perseus Echeminada -
Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. has turned over to the QC Polytechnic University (QCPU) a P15-million scholarship fund to be awarded to about 1,700 scholars presently enrolled in the school.

Beneficiaries include 573 city scholars, who will be exempted from paying tuition and miscellaneous fees; 762 university scholars, who are entitled to a 50 percent discount in tuition and other fees; and 372 college scholars, who can avail of 35 percent discount on all school fees.

Belmonte said the turnover of the scholarship fund is "part of the city government’s bigger plans for the university."

"One of the biggest needs of Quezon City is good education. It is the primary reason why the city government saw it imperative to invest in the transformation of the QCPU into a highly competitive technological university where we can train our students for world marketability," Belmonte said.

During the occasion, the Mayor rallied beneficiaries of QCPU’s socialized scholarship program to take advantage of the opportunities given to them, and urged them to utilize these opportunities properly for their success and advancement.

Since Belmonte assumed office in July 2001, the city budget allocation for its scholarship program has increased from P13 million to P40 million. This year, the city government is planning to add P20 million more to cover more beneficiaries.

To date, the city’s scholarship program has benefited more than 11,000.
