Port of Manila tops collection target by P228M

Port of Manila (POM) Customs collections under Customs Collector Horacio Suansing Jr. has increased collections by 2.68 percent, exceeding July target by P228.28 million.

Suansing said the July 2006 performance has brought the total collection since January to P38.6 billion, well above the P22.2-billion collection target.

The POM revenue figures do not even reflect non-cash collections, which include deferred payments by government accounts, payments made through the application of tax credits, and exempted importation.

POM now contributes 36 percent of revenues collected by the entire Bureau of Customs. The remaining 64 percent are collected by the Bureau’s 13 collection districts nationwide.

Suansing, who took over as district collector in June last year, credited the outstanding performance to the dedication and cooperation of his team. This, he stressed, stems from the high morale of personnel.

"The effort is complemented by the all-out support of port users and the transacting public," he said.

Suansing vowed to continue implementing priority revenue measures to maintain POM’s outstanding record.
