KTV bar in San Juan to close shop

The owner of the KTV bar in San Juan where a lone gunman shot dead six people and wounded two others last July 9 decided to close shop permanently.

Superintendent Rodelio Jocson, San Juan police chief, said Olivia Tupaz, owner of he Cheers and Beer KTV bar, located at the corner of Araneta Avenue Extension and N. Domingo St., in Barangay Progreso deemed it proper to close the bar.

The Tupaz couple had been renting the place for more or less P50,000 a month. Their business was picking up until Henry Fong, alias Henry Cuales, shot dead six drivers and wounded two others inside the establishment last July 9.

Killed were Christopher Caedo, 35; Felix Alday, 28; Vladimer Bona, 35; Mario Pastorpili, 42; Ronald Macalad, 27, and Crispen Tambiolan, 40.

Jocson said Fong’s mother, Juvy Andrade Cuales, and Barangay Batis chairman Jerry Solis have been working for his surrender.

The San Juan police chief said they are awaiting the issuance of an arrest warrant against Fong before they could launch an all-out offensive.

The San Juan police filed multiple murder and frustrated murder against Fong before the Municipal Trial Court (MTC).

In 1993, an unidentified suspect also lobbed a hand grenade in the same establishment, killing six people and wounding 29 others. The case remained unsolved. — Non Alquitran
