Buckle up, Bayani reminds motorists
July 17, 2006 | 12:00am
Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando reminded motorists yesterday about the serious dangers of not using seatbelts.
Stressing that buckling up is mandated by law, Fernando said drivers should remember that seatbelts are there for their safety and protection in case of accidents.
"Its not something motorists should ignore," Fernando said during the MMDAs weekly radio program aired over dzBB yesterday.
"We are more often the first to respond to accidents and believe us, we know how important wearing seatbelts is," he said.
Fernando issued the reminder after the agency also warned motorists against careless driving during the rainy season.
Records show that road accidents rise during the rainy season because roads, especially asphalt covered thoroughfares, are slippery.
MMDA officials noted that most accidents take place during light rainfall contrary to the perception that heavy downpours are more dangerous. Michael Punongbayan
