NPD cops to get funeral benefits

Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil, Northern Police District (NPD) director, announced yesterday that his command, in a joint undertaking with the Manila Alliance of Lions Clubs (MALC), is giving memorial grants to organic personnel who are killed in the line of duty.
The NPD chief is also charter director of MALC.
Bataoil said he is fully aware of burden on the shoulders of the surviving families, who suffer the very high cost of burying their dead even as they deal with the loss of their loved ones.
"We are almost tempted to say bawal ang mamatay", considering the prohibitive cost of burying our dead. But even if it may sound morbid, we all know, that sooner or later, our time, too, will come. And for our policemens families with nothing extra on their hands, the loss is doubly difficult to bear, so this will be a welcome opportunity," he said.
The NPD chief said that although the grant amounts to only P15,000, it would still be a big help particularly for those who do not have memorial plans.
Only recently, Bataoil added, the Malabon City Lions Club accorded the members of the Malabon police, headed by Senior Superintendent Moises Guevarra, with similar memorial grants. Jerry Botial
