Fire razes Makati furniture warehouse

Some P15 million worth of property, mostly furniture, went up in smoke in a fire that lasted for almost 10 hours in Makati City last Sunday.

Two firefighters, identified as Fire Officer 3 Benjamin Cabigting and Fire Officer 1 Eliseo Mata, suffered minor lacerations and burns while trying to put out the blaze.

Razed was the MC Home Depot building, a furniture showroom and warehouse, located at the corner of Pasong Tamo and EDSA.

Fire Officer 1 Christine Corcino said 39 firetrucks from various units and volunteer organizations had to be fielded when the alarm reached Task Force Charlie.

She said the fire started at around 4:55 p.m. last Sunday at the wardrobe area located on the left wing occupied by Muebles Italiano, one of the building tenants.

Corcino, who is investigating the incident with Senior Fire Officer 1 Samuel Guzman, said the fire was declared under control after more than seven hours at around 12:20 a.m. Monday.

"Fire out was declared at 2:20 p.m.," she told The Star, noting that the actual cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.

Corcino said there were three persons inside the establishment when the fire broke out, but none of them were hurt.
