At least 27 persons were rounded up by the Manila police on the so-called "sanctuary" of criminals in Sampaloc, Manila last night in an attempt to flush out members of crime groups reportedly hiding in the area.
Operatives of the Manila Police District (MPD)s Homicide Section led by Chief Inspector Alejandro Yanquiling Jr. swooped down on Antipolo, Prudencio and Algeciras streets and the shanties under the Dimasalang bridge shortly before midnight.
The operation was hatched following the successive homicide cases perpetrated near the University of Sto. Tomas, and the near fatal shooting of Manila police Inspector Jose del Fierro by an armed holdupper near Dimasalang and Don Quixote streets in Sampaloc last Thursday.
One of the 27 brought to the police precinct was found to have a pending murder case. Nestor Etolle
