Muntinlupa to join environmental summit in Japan

-
Muntinlupa is set to join cities of several countries in an environmental summit to be held in Japan in October, local officials announced yesterday.

Muntinlupa will join the other sister cities of Takasaki, Japan in discussing possible remedies to the environmental problem.

Takasaki has sister cities in the US, Brazil, China and the Czech Republic.

Representatives of the various cities also plan to hold joint research work on the environment as well as set up annual conferences to be held in each of the said countries on a rotating basis.

Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi will lead the team that will fly to Japan in October.

"We will be discussing with the chief executives of other cities of participating countries the measures we can adopt to address urgent environmental problems at the global level," Fresnedi pointed out.

He added that there will also be discussions on current successful environmental programs of each city and possible exchange of information on technological programs in both ecological and cultural areas.

During the summit, Muntinlupa will sign an agreement with Takasaki that aims to result in a more substantial and fruitful educational, environmental and cultural exchange between the two cities.

Earlier, officials of Takasaki visited Muntinlupa to check on the existing environmental programs of the city.
