Makati traffic personnel apprehend 129 motorists

-
In line with its road discipline campaign, the Makati Traffic Enforcement Unit (MTEU) has apprehended a total of 129 erring motorists in the city’s major thoroughfares.

MTEU chief Senior Inspector Estela Lomat said the violators were nabbed during a special operation conducted from June 5 to 9.

She said Mayor Jejomar Binay instructed them to closely watch all roads leading to schools to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

Under the new Makati Traffic Code, violations such as obstruction, disregard of traffic signs and parking in illegal terminals carry a fine of P500 for the first offense, P1,000 and P1,500 for the second and third offenses, respectively.

The road discipline campaign has also improved traffic flow near schools, particularly in Pasong Tamo, Pasay Road, Pio del Pilar and J.P. Rizal extension.

She said they will sustain their strict operation to ensure that traffic in Makati will be smooth, and erring motorists will be penalized accordingly. Rhodina Villanueva
