Pasig says no to STL
June 8, 2006 | 12:00am
The small town lottery (STL) and all other forms of gambling will not be allowed within the jurisdiction of Pasig City.
Pasig Mayor Vicente Eusebio officially issued his stand on the controversial STL, which is being lobbied under the franchise of Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor).
In a statement, Eusebio warned all individuals and lobby groups to refrain from approaching him on the possibilities of opening STL in the city.
"Pasig City has achieved its economic supremacy with the help of legitimate investors and its industrious people.
STL, jueteng and any forms of gambling have nothing to do with our present financial status," the mayor said.
The mayor also encouraged Pasigueños and barangay officials to coordinate with his office if they receive any information on "kangaroo operations" related to legalized and illegal gambling in their area."We will apply the full force of the law if they insist on invading Pasig," the mayor said.
