NBI digs deeper into NAIA shooting

Even after filing murder charges against Aviation Security Group (ASG) Chief Inspector Cenon Tenorio, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Acting Director Nestor Mantaring said yesterday they would continue the probe into the killing of an official of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).
Mantaring said that while they have in their custody Tenorio, the main suspect in the killing of MIAA technical assistant Eduardo Tiotioen, the NBI unit at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), headed by Rogelio Mamauag, will still try to find out the actual motive for the shooting.
"We still have to check previous incidents to find out if Tenorio had an old grudge with Tiotioen, if they had a misunderstanding. These things would be looked into by the authorities," Mantaring said.
The NBI-NAIA last Monday responded to a shooting incident in the vicinity of the Departure Loading and Unloading Area at NAIA Terminal 1 in Pasay City.
At around 10 p.m., Tiotioen instructed porterage supervisor Joselito Azucena to assist someone in the arrival area. After a few minutes, Azucena saw the suspect follow the victim.
The MIAA official questioned his presence in the arrival area and this led to a heated argument. The NBI said the victim later instructed Azucena to look for the suspect and disarm him.
He found him sitting inside his Toyota Lucida van at the departure area.
Tiotioen, along with one Greg Garcia, approached Tenorio. The suspect then alighted from the vehicle and walked toward Tiotioen.
The officer then shot Tiotioen in the chest. He fired three more shots at the MIAA official even when he was lying on the pavement.
