‘Balik Paaralan’ for TMG

-
Expecting heavy traffic on Metro Manila roads leading to schools during the resumption of classes next week, the Traffic Management Group (TMG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) will be implementing Operational Plan "Balik Paaralan.

TMG director Chief Superintendent Errol Pan said Oplan Balik Paaralan would involve a combination of traffic direction and control as well as assistance to motorists.

"We will deploy mobile units and personnel on foot at different strategic areas nationwide, particularly near schools and universities," Pan said.

The TMG chief said a number of personnel would also be fielded along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).

The deployment of TMG personnel would be done in coordination with other government agencies and non-government organizations.

"We are doing this every year to assist motorists who are expected to return to Manila from the provinces, and protect students from criminal elements who might take advantage of the situation," the TMG chief pointed out.

Apart from ensuring smooth traffic flow, the TMG would also deploy anti-car theft teams.

Pan said the rate of car theft in the country has dropped to 1.8 percent a day from three to four cars before his stint as chief of the TMG.

He attributed the accomplishment to the intensified effort of traffic personnel and public awareness. — Cecille Suerte Felipe
