NBI seizes P20-M fake NBA products

- Evelyn Macairan -
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has confiscated some P20 million worth of fake National Basketball Association (NBA) jerseys and other products from several establishments in Manila.

Head agent Jose Justo Yap, of the NBI-Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD), said they seized 7,076 fake NBA shirts and jerseys as well as printing materials, tags and labels.

Yap said the raid was conducted last April 28 following a complaint filed by NBA Properties Inc.

Special investigator Christopher Hernandez said they are now preparing charges against No Rules Sportswear at the Tutuban Center, CDM Printing located in Tondo, Manila and Henson Garment Manufacturing Corp. also in Tondo.

The NBI-IPRD conducted surveillance and test-buy operations at the establishments then secured three search warrants from Executive Judge Antonio Eugenio Jr., of the Manila City Regional Trial Court.

Yap said the three manufacturers face charges for violating provisions of the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
