Fires hit Muntinlupa, Makati

Sixteen houses were razed in a fire in Muntinlupa City while a portion of a hotel in Makati City was also destroyed by a fire yesterday morning.
Fire Officer 2 Marlon Santos, arson investigator, said the blaze in Muntinlupa occurred at around 10 a.m. in a depressed area located at the Philippine National Railway (PNR) site in Barangay Sucat.
Santos said the fire started in the bedroom of the house of a certain Grace Salvalosa. The fire reached the fifth alarm and was contained at around 12:44 p.m.
A total of 14 firetrucks rushed to the area to put out the fire. Probers estimate that damage to properties reached P1 million.
Meanwhile, a portion of a hotel in Makati City was also destroyed by a fire at around 11:12 a.m.
Fire Officer 2 Wilfredo Nardo said the fire started in one of the stock rooms at the 19th floor of the Best Western Hotel (Astor Hotel) located along Makati Avenue corner Eduque Street in Barangay Poblacion. It quickly spread to an adjacent stockroom.
The fire, which only reached the first alarm, was contained at about 12:20 p.m. No one was injured in both incidents.
