Elements of the Parañaque police have arrested two suspected carjackers, including a former Marine.
Superintendent Ronald Estilles, Parañaque police chief, said suspects Renato Notarte, 38, a discharged member of the Philippine Marines and resident of Madapdap, Mabalacat, Pampanga; and Anthony Dolor, 24, of Mati, Agusan del Sur, were apprehended by lawmen in front of the Dimensional Building along Elizalde Avenue in Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque City at around 4 p.m. last Tuesday.
Initial investigation conducted by the police showed that Rameses Deo Garcia, 27, and resident of Talon Uno, Las Piñas, was driving a black Honda Civic (UJB-198) on Elizalde Avenue, when the suspects flagged down his vehicle.
Gracia was ordered at gunpoint to get out of the vehicle.
However, the victim resisted and shouted for help.
The suspects panicked and quickly boarded a tricycle to escape.
Police Officer 2 Ferdinand Ramos and Police Officer 1 Shoji Antillion, deployed for police visibility operations in the area, responded to the call for help.
The two apprehended Notarte and Dolor.
A Scene of the Crime Operations team passing by the area assisted the Parañaque police officers in accosting the suspected carjackers.
Recovered from Notarte was a caliber .45 pistol, with two magazines. The firearm was positively identified by the victim as the one used by the suspects in the incident.
Estilles said that they are still checking if the suspects were also involved in previous carjacking incidents in nearby cities and municipalities.
