Fire hits Makati plastics warehouse

- Michael Punongbayan -
More than P2 million worth of property went up in flames when fire hit a two-storey plastics factory in Makati City shortly after midnight yesterday.

No one was reported injured in the blaze which destroyed the warehouse of Vassar Industries Inc. located at 7272 Malugay street, San Antonio Village.

The firefighters had difficulty putting out the fire because the factory contained stocks of plastic, foam, and other light materials.

Reports from the Makati City Fire Department said the blaze started at around 12:35 a.m. at the second floor of the building.

Roving guard Joselito Decipolo said he noticed "flickering light" so he checked inside the warehouse.

He asked for help from workers in the area, but they couldn’t put out the blaze using fire extinguishers.

The MCFD and volunteer firefighters took two hours to completely put out the blaze.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Francisco Sergio said probers are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze.

In Quezon City, six houses were razed in a fire that struck a slum area along Agham Road yesterday.
