Carjackers strike in Makati

- Michael Punongbayan -
Members of the Makati City Police Department’s Anti-Carnapping (Ancar) unit are now hunting down three men who forcibly took a silver Honda City from a sales manager and his wife last Sunday night.

The suspects, who were carrying long and short firearms, used the car as a second escape vehicle after abandoning their first vehicle, a white Toyota Vios.

All three had blood on their shirts while the vehicle they left behind had bullet holes, apparently as a result of an earlier crime they committed.

Reports said the carjacking took place at around 8:15 p.m. along a poorly lit portion of Guingua street in Barangay Pinagkaisahan.

The suspects’ Vios (ZAV-718) blocked the path of the Honda City (ADS-207) being driven by Roy Risos.

Risos, who was with his wife Agnes, told policemen that three men got off the vehicle and ordered them out of their’s at gunpoint.

Two of the suspects were carrying rifles while the third had a caliber .45 pistol.

Risos said he noticed their shirts had bloodstains though no one appeared to be seriously wounded.

He said the suspects sped toward an unknown direction leaving them behind with the Vios, which also appears to have been stolen.

Police Officer 2 Primo Ragas, officer-on-case, said the abandoned vehicle had several bullet holes and its interior had blood stains.

Upon learning of the incident, MCPD-Ancar alerted other anti-car theft units in the metropolis and checked if a robbery or shooting incident took place.

There were no reports of other carjackings.

The abandoned vehicle yielded Sta. Rita exit tollgate tickets, suggesting that the earlier crime was committed in Bulacan or a nearby province.

Meanwhile, a Filipino-Chinese woman and her nephew went through a harrowing experience at the hands of an armed robber in Bocaue, Bulacan, following a chase that started along E. Rodriguez Avenue in Quezon City yesterday.

Inspector Rey Medina, chief of the Quezon City Police District General Assignment Section said Elaine Co, 36 and her nephew were on board a blue Honda Civic traveling on E. Rodriguez Avenue when a man blocked their path and forcibly entered their car.

The suspect announced a holdup, and took her cell phones and cash.

Sensing he was spotted by policemen, the suspect took the wheel of the vehicle, taking with him the two victims as he sped to Bocaue, Bulacan.

When the car ran out of fuel, the suspect abandoned the vehicle with the victims inside. With James Mananghaya
