Taguig mayor orders probe on teacher’s slay

Taguig Mayor Freddie Tiñga ordered the police yesterday to investigate the killing of a high-school teacher, who was gunned down by two still unidentified men last Thursday afternoon.

Teodulo Gonzales, 45, Technological Livelihood Education head teacher of the Taguig National High School and resident of Molino, Bacoor, Cavite, was on his way home on board a tricycle in Barangay Lower Bicutan, when the suspects attacked him.

Police Officer 3 Alain Sigua, officer-on-case, said Gonzales was seated at the back of a six-seater tricycle when the incident happened at about 4:30 p.m. along Mariano Street, Purok 3, Lower Bicutan, Taguig.

He had just left school when the suspects started running after the tricycle he boarded. They shot Gonzales several times and afterward, escaped.

Scenes of the Crime Operatives recovered two empty shells and one deformed slug from a caliber 9mm pistol. The victim’s personal belongings were intact, prompting police to rule out robbery.

"We condemn the attack made on Mr. Gonzales and we call on witnesses to come forward or call our Anti-Crime Hotline (640-2222) to help our police unmask the people behind this cowardly act so they can be punished," Tiñga said.

The mayor directed newly-designated Taguig police chief Superintendent Alfred Sotto Corpus, to conduct a thorough probe.

Corpus, who assumed office with the retirement of Superintendent Ramon Reyes last Monday, said they are still in the process of getting statements from witnesses.

"We will leave no stone unturned in the investigation of this case as I am at the same time formulating a police visibility plan that will cater to the needs of each community as we intensify our fight against criminality in Taguig," Corpus said.
