BPO provides training, possible job opportunities for UMAK students

A leading business process outsourcing company now provides on-the-job training and possible employment for students of the city government-owned University of Makati (UMAK).
In a report to Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay, UMAK president Tomas Lopez said some 33 graduating students from UMAKs College of Business Administration are now undergoing on-the-job training at Accenture.
UMAK and Accenture Inc. recently signed an agreement wherein the company will provide assistance to UMAK in developing the skills of its graduating students. Accenture will also provide the facilities, venue, social work practice, exposure to actual office environment, learning experience, supervision, training and support.
Accenture Inc. is a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company. It has more than 110 offices in 48 countries and has extensive experience in a wide variety of industries and key business areas, including customer relationship management, supply chain and management, business strategy, technology and outsourcing.
In Makati alone, Accenture already has six sites.
Lopez said 33 UMAK students underwent classroom training on business essentials prior to internship.
According to William Salire, director of UMAKs OJT and Placement Services Center, the 33 students who are candidates for graduation on May 5, are taking up Accountancy, Accounting Technology, Accounting Management and Building Property Management courses.
"UMAKs College of Business Administration was the first to participate in the OJT program but it will be open to other colleges next school year, including its College of Computer Science and English courses," Salire said.
UMAK holds the distinction of being the first city-owned university to implement a dual training system, which provides students with hands-on training in the industry to enhance their formal schooling.
