Boy rescued from abductor

-
A five-year-old boy was kidnapped and saved by police an hour after the abduction was reported to the Parañaque police station yesterday.

Melvin Quintua, a resident of the PNR Rail Site in Barangay San Martin de Porres, Parañaque, was reportedly lured by the suspect Ruben Basario, 38, of Upper Bicutan, Taguig City, to come with him by initially giving the victim candies and softdrinks.

Superintendent Ronald Estilles, Parañaque police chief, said that around 3 p.m., Quintua was playing with his female cousins outside the house when the suspect and his cohort came near the children.

Basario, a handicraft maker, claimed that he was just asking the three children to accompany him to the cockpit located 500 meters from Quintua’s house.

It was only the boy who accompanied the suspect.

However, when residents in the area noticed that the child was walking with a stranger, they immediately informed his father, Dominador Quintua, who in turn, reported the incident to the police.

A team led by Police Inspector Enrique Catignas of the Parañaque Police Community Precinct 3, responded and arrested the suspect.

Kidnapping charges are now being readied against Basario, who is now in the custody of the Parañaque police. Rhodina Villanueva
