QC receives modern smoke belch detectors

-
The Quezon City government has received from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) modern anti-smoke belching equipment that will be used in the clean air campaign.

Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. personally accepted a set of portable smoke-belching detectors from Arlene Donaire, head of the USAID Energy and Clean Air Project (ECAP) in ceremonies held at the Quezon City Hall Bulawagan.

The campaign against smoke belching in the city was among the major programs initiated by Belmonte to make the city a pollution-free community.

The efforts of the mayor have been cited by the Land Transportation Office when the agency declared the city’s anti-smoke belching unit as the top LTO enforcement group for year 2005.

The city government has forged a partnership with USAID, the Liga mga Barangay and Ateneo de Manila University in hosting a symposium on the role of the local governments in supporting sustainable energy and clean air.

The symposium aims to increase the level of awareness and involvement in the implementation of energy and clean air programs. Perseus Echeminada
