PCP chief axed for slow response to car chase

A Las Piñas police official was ordered relieved from his post after failing to help pursue suspected carjackers last Tuesday.

Superintendent Josephus Angan, Las Piñas police chief, ordered the administrative relief of Superintendent Noel Mercayer, chief of the Las Piñas Police Community Precinct (PCP) 2.

Angan said that an investigation is now ongoing to determine if Mercayer indeed failed to immediately act on a call to help officers chase two suspected carjackers on board an FX taxi.

The chase started in Mandaluyong City, where the suspects forcibly took the vehicle. A news reporter of a TV network assigned in the area relayed information to his colleagues.

One reporter chanced upon the vehicle being driven by the suspects along the Alabang-Zapote Road. He immediately informed policemen detailed at the PCP 2 about the chase.

Angan said Mercayer initially argued that several motorcycles were blocking their patrol car, causing the delay in the taking of immediate action.

The suspects managed to elude their pursuers.

Mercayer has been replaced by Inspector Reynaldo Verdeflor. – Rhodina Villanueva
