LP launches ‘cleanest’ search

-
Las Piñas Mayor Imelda Aguilar has launched a citywide search for the cleanest barangay, barangay hall, school, daycare center and police precinct as part of an intensified campaign by the city government to promote ecological waste segregation and recycling.

Aguilar said the search aims to promote cleanliness and the habit of garbage segregation among the participating sectors to ensure the city residents health and safety.

"It is high time that everyone do their share in maintaining cleanliness to minimize the volume of garbage collected daily and to promote safe and clean environment," the mayor said.

Aguilar said a search committee composed of representatives from various sectors will be formed to conduct on site inspections and evaluations.

She said cash prizes, plaques of recognition await the winners.

Aguilar said participants include all 20 barangays, 65 day care centers, health centers, commercial establishments, public elementary and high schools and police stations.

She added that interested private schools may also join the contest.

Las Piñas was adjudged as Metro Manila’s "cleanest and greenest" for three consecutive years (1997-1999) and earned the distinction of being the first local government unit to receive the prestigious United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) award during the 2000 World Earth Day celebration held in Adelaide, Australia.
