A man caught by barangay watchmen in a scuffle with an unidentified adversary tried to run away, but fell and drowned in a creek last Friday night in Valenzuela City.
POS Richard Bautista, officer on case, identified the victim as Jeren Placero, 32, a jeepney driver, of Maysan Road, Maisan, Valenzuela City.
Records showed at round 11:40 p.m., the victim was spotted by a roving patrol of watchmen wrestling with another man on the payment.
Patrol leader Noli Torres trained his flashlight on the duo, who then broke up and went their separate ways.
Placero ran toward the creek, but slipped on the wet banks and fell into the murky water.
Torres sought the help of the Valenzuela Rescue Team, led by Rey Calinacion, even as Placero failed to surface.
Several minutes later, the rescuers found the victim still breathing and brought him out of the water for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR.
He was quickly taken to the Valenzula General Hospital for further treatment, but was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Manuel Inoturan. Jerry Botial
