Parañaque gov’t improves security at BF Homes

- Rhodina Villanueva -
The Parañaque City government is now putting in place security measures that would ensure the safety of residents to prevent incidents like the recent carjacking attempt that claimed the life of a 19-year-old nursing student.

Nelson Lacambra, spokesman of Parañaque Mayor Florencio Bernabe, said that the city government will soon enforce the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of an ordinance providing guidelines for motorists and passersby at the BF Homes Subdivision area.

"The issuance of the IRR aims to address the security issues, especially after complaints that the subdivision could become prone to crime incidents after the court ordered the opening of subdivision gates late last year," Lacambra said.

Earlier, Bernabe clarified that the carjacking attempt happened outside the subdivision gates.

This was in response to allegations made by members of the United BF Homeowners Association Inc. (UBFHAI) that the opening of village gates has threatened the security of residents in the area.

"The crime took place 200 meters away from the nearest subdivision gate and that the site has long been developed into a commercial area," Bernabe said.

On the evening of Feb. 12, Richard Capili was sitting inside his Toyota Revo waiting for his sister at the Landco Center Mall along President’s Avenue when three suspects beat him up in an attempt to take his vehicle.

One of the suspects shot him then fled on board his black Revo.

The suspects were later arrested and the vehicle recovered.

Part of the security measures to be undertaken by city officials at the BF Homes area includes the issuance of stickers to motorists going in and out of the subdivision.

"The issuance of stickers is just one measure the city government will undertake in coordination with officials of Barangay BF, to regulate cars and other transport vehicles passing through El Grande and Aguirre gates," Lacambra said.

He also bared plans by the city government to close to motorists said roads at particular hours of the day.

"They will also be deliberating on the type of vehicles to be allowed entry inside the subdivision. They plan to set limit on what kind of vehicles can have access to village gates," he said.

Apart from providing security to subdivision residents, the move aims to ensure order in the area, the mayor’s spokesman said.
