Boy killed in Marikina blaze

A seven-year-old boy died while his mother suffered third-degree burns in a fire that hit a compound in Marikina City yesterday.

Carl Michael Ilagan was trapped inside their apartnment unit at the Ivy Compound on Gen. Ordonez street, Barangay Marikina Heights when a fire broke out at the second floor of the apartment at 3:38 a.m.

His charred body was recovered at the ground floor.

Ilagan’s mother, Rizalina, 26, sustained third degree burns in the body and is now being treated at the East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City.

Arson investigators said the mother managed to flee the burning room.

Responding firefighters tried to rescue the boy, but they had to retreat because of the intense heat.

Firefighters recovered the boy’s body at about 5 a.m.

Arson investigators are still determining the cause of the blaze, which reached the 3rd alarm. Non Alquitran
