A top official of the Kingdom of Nepal visited Quezon City yesterday to study the Kasambahay program of the city government, which provides for the registration of household helpers to ensure they are accorded the benefits due them.
Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. and Councilor Francisco Calalay met the delegation, headed by Labor Minister Deeprenda Bikram Thapa.
The Kasambahay ordinance. authored by Councilor Francisco Calalay and approved by Belmonte last year, has been the subject of a study by the International Labor Organization.
Calalay said the Kasambahay program is also being supported by non-government organizations like the Visayan Forum Foundation Inc. and Religious Mary Immaculate.
"The primary objective of this ordinance is to empower the domestic worker sector, which is the invisible engine of Filipino life," the councilor said. Perseus Echeminada
