QC honors top tax collectors

- Perseus Echeminada -
The Quezon City government honored yesterday top revenue officers of the treasury department’s special task force, including one who was able to collect P38 million in taxes last year as result of the examination of accounts of business establishments.

Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr., Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista and City Treasurer Victor Endriga presented plaques of appreciation to 14 members of the task force during yesterday’s flag-raising ceremony.

The awarding ceremony was also attended by Eduardo Villanueva, who also holds the record for his single-day collection of P29 million during his stint as task force member in 2004. He is now the treasurer of Cainta.

Endriga said awards are given every year to revenue officers who surpass the P1-million mark within a one-year period.

"Additional cash incentives including a trip abroad will be given to the top revenue collector of the year. Their efforts have contributed in making Quezon City the richest local government unit in the country today," Endriga said.

Leading the list is Eduardo Evangelista, chief of the task force. He collected P38.1 million last year. Other awardees were Luzviminda Luacan, Angel Angeles, Antonio Saur, Rosernie Santos, Enrique Donasco Jr., Arnel Cleofas, Elmer Donasco, Shaira Liban, Anacleto Manalac, Lino Bernal Jr., Narcisa Mutas, Cesar Nadonga and Susan Vendiola.

Endriga reported to Belmonte that the city government has a gross collection of P 1.9 billion as of Friday.
