Marikina mayor to deliver state of city address

- Non Alquitran -
The notable accomplishments of Marikina City for year 2005 has prompted Mayor Maria Lourdes Fernando to declare that the city is on the right track to fulfill its dream of becoming a "Little Singapore."

Fernando will be reporting accomplishments today during her State of the City Address to be held at the City Hall Quadrangle.

The SOCA would focus on the development directions the city government has undertaken for 2006 that would help Marikina City achieve its dream of becoming a "Little Singapore."

Fernando has received numerous national and international awards and citations in 2005 in leading the city of Marikina.

The awards, she said, speak of the city as it is today "and what it has accomplished through the years and its strong determination to make a difference in the lives of the people."

"We believe that we have successfully laid down the foundation that makes for a Little Singapore. I believe that our city is ready to throw its hat into the global arena. We have so far accomplished a lot, but the best is yet to come," said Fernando, adding that her governance is guided by core philosophies as well as fiscal prudence and service excellence.

Fernando is expected to highlight her successful hosting of three international sporting events, establishing new landmarks and the staging of the Rehiyon-Rehiyon festival.

The local footwear industry also participated in the GDS World Trade Exposition, dubbed as the biggest shoe exhibit in the world. This was held in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Officials also participated in the FAME International Trade Fair organized by CITEM held at the World Trade Center. The expo has opened new markets for local footwear products.
