Cop nabbed for carrying unlicensed gun

- Pete Laude -
A police officer assigned in Bulacan was arrested Friday for carrying an unlicensed firearm inside a videoke bar in Valenzuela City.

PO3 Colley Capistrano, 37, a resident of Quirino Valino st., Aduas Centro, Cabanatuan City, detailed at the Hagonoy police station in Bulacan, however, is in deeper trouble.

Valenzuela City police’s gallery of suspected criminals shows that one of the suspects in the killing of a Northern Police District official, Senior Superintendent Eugenio Casalme, in a May 2001 bus robbery at the North Luzon Expressway resembles Capistrano.

The Valenzuela cops are coordinating with other law enforcement agencies, particularly the National Bureau of Investigation, to check Capistrano’s background.

According to intelligence sources, Capistrano was charged with robbery in Cabanatuan City sometime in 2000 but the case filed against him did not prosper in court.

At around 9:15 p.m. on Friday, the Valenzuela City police Station Investigation Unit, headed by Inspector Rhoderick Juan, received information that two armed men were seen drinking inside the King Alfred videoke bar along Nuestra Señora st. in Villa Pariancillo.

A team from Sub-station 5, led by Inspector Gene Coralde, swooped down on the area and nabbed Capistrano and his companion, Andres Quibuyen, 18, a resident of Barangay Bisig, Valenzuela City.

SPO2 Jesus Sagisi said Capistrano yielded a Colt .45 pistol with 15 bullets. Seized from Quibuyen was another caliber .45 pistol with seven bullets.

Capistrano told the Valenzuela cops that he has no issued firearm from the Philippine National Police (PNP) so he was obliged to buy his own gun.

Sagisi, however, said that Capistrano’s firearm must be properly documented.
