Prosecutors handling Jaylo’s cases get death threats

Members of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) team and prosecutors from the Department of Justice (DOJ) handling the cases filed against former Capt. Reynaldo Jaylo, are now receiving death threats.

In a letter to President Arroyo, the prosecutors led by Senior State Prosecutor Emmanuel Velasco told the President that since the start of the investigation of the illegal recruitment and qualified bribery cases against Jaylo they have been receiving death threats.

Velasco said that NBI investigation and special operations division head Allan Contado, NBI assistant regional director Vicente de Guzman III, NBI Special Task Force regional director Reynaldo Esmeralda and himself have been the subject of a surveillance by unidentified armed men.

Judge Nina Antonio-Valenzuela of Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 28 issued an arrest warrant against Jaylo last Oct. 29 and recommended no bail for the crime of serious illegal detention in violation of Article 276 of the Revised Penal Code.
