Armed men storm house in Caloocan: 1 dead, 2 hurt
January 21, 2006 | 12:00am
A 39-year-old man was shot dead while his live-in partner and a niece were wounded after two gunmen barged into their house and shot them early yesterday in Caloocan City.
Ramil Azares was found by responding cops still in his underwear and bathed in his own blood inside his rented room in Franville 1, Barangay 175, Camarin, Caloocan.
Taken to the East Avenue Medical Center were Azares partner Corazon Bartolome, 29, for treatment of a bullet wound in the body, together with Lykalyn Azares, who was hit on the shoulder.
Meanwhile, police said they intend to question Wilfredo Doterio, owner of the house being rented by the victim.
Witnesses told investigators the suspect and the victim had previously been at odds over the alleged failure of the latter to pay rent.
Initial reports showed the shooting erupted at around 5:30 a.m. yesterday as the three were having breakfast.
Azares had just risen from bed and was taking a cup of coffee when two men armed with handguns of unknown caliber barged into the house and fired several rounds at the victims.
In the first volley, Bartolome and the young girl were the first to be hit even as Azares ran out of the house.
The suspects, however, gave chase and caught up with him at a grassy portion of the neighborhood and was cut down by several bullets.
Initial investigation showed a previous attempt to settle their dispute at the barangay hall failed.
In Pasay City, a 45-year-old housewife was shot in the throat by two men looking for her brother yesterday.
Police said Marivic Reyes of Victor street in Tramo tried to protect her brother, who allegedly reported to police the suspects illegal drug activities.
Reyes is under observation at the Manila Sanitarium Hospital. With Pete Laude, Rhodina Villanueva
