Cop, companion killed in Caloocan

A police officer and a female companion were killed in an ambush staged by at least six motorcycle-riding men last Friday night in Caloocan City.
PO2 Emil Masi, 34, assigned at the Caloocan City Police Station Anti-Illegal Drugs Unit and a resident of Barangay Maysan, Valenzuela City, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body.
His companion, identified as Cassandra Francisco, a resident of Camarin, Caloocan City North, died on the way to teh hospital.
She sustained bullet wounds in the head, right arm and left portion of the neck.
SPO1 Jerry Ramos said gunmen on three motorcycles waited in ambush as the officer was about to park his owner type jeep on Kiko-Camarin Road, Barangay 179 in Caloocan City North at around 10:30 p.m.
The suspects peppered with bullets the vehicle, killing the cop on the spot and wounding his companion. She was declared dead on arrival at Dr. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital in Tala by Dr. Ruben Dejito.
Ramos and PO3 Generoso Rosales, both of the Sub-Station 4, tried to run after the suspects, but failed to catch them.
Northern Police District Scene of the Crime Operatives, led by Senior Inspector Domingo Alminiana, recovered from the crime scene 14 empty shells from a 9 mm pistol and six empty shells from a caliber .45 automatic.
