National housing program gets lift from city ordinance

Two Quezon City councilors have given Vice President Noli de Castro a lift in implementing the national housing program by proposing a city ordinance designed to lessen the burden of poor families in acquiring their own house and lots.

Councilors Winston Castelo from District 2 and Junie Marie Castelo of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) are the proponents of an ordinance exempting beneficiaries of the Community Mortgage Program (CMP) from paying locational clearance, building and development permits.

The older Castelo said the ordinance is complimentary to the government‘s housing thrust currently being spearheaded by De Castro, who also chairs the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).

"Poor families availing of the CMP need not to shell out more of their needed funds through this ordinance. In a way, we’re helping CMP to become even more friendly to our needy constituents who dream of owning houses," he said.
