In recognition of the valuable contribution of teachers and educators in nation-building, Caloocan City Mayor Enrico "Recom" Echiverri has declared every second Friday of December as "City Teachers Day."
In Executive Order 037-05, Echiverri said that beginning Dec. 9, 2005, every second Friday of the last month of the year will be a special non-working holiday for all public and private elementary and secondary schools in the city.
He added it is proper and fitting to give the citys elementary and secondary school teachers due recognition and acknowledgment for their untiring and dedicated service to educate the constituents.
He stressed the teachers are the ones instrumental in educating the youth and instilling in them proper values and making them responsible and productive members of the society.
The declaration of the holiday was in response to the clamor of the teachers and in recognition of their valuable contribution in the citys development.
The Sangguniang Panglungsod, in Resolution 1696 series of 2005 it passed and adopted, requested the city government through the mayor to make the declaration.
Echiverri earlier urged student teachers, teachers and principals to take advantage to all the seminars and training given to them as these are very important in order for them to be efficient and proficient in the field they have chosen.
"Sa pamamagitan ng mga training na ito ay sigurado ako na makakapag-produce tayo ng quality teachers for the students to have quality education," he said.
The mayor noted that the training the student teachers will get will be a big help for them when they take licensure exams and might help them to top the LET.
He added that the supervisors and superintendents are in their current positions because of the training they have received.
"The supervisors and superintendents will not be in their positions had they not excelled and they were able to excel because they received the proper training when they were student teachers like you," he said.
