In a memorandum, Echiverri directed Vice Mayor Luis "Tito" Varela, all city councilors and all department heads and officers-in-charge to ban in their respective offices the playing of all kinds of computer games.
"In the exigency of service, all computer games are hereby prohibited in all departments/offices, effective immediately," he said.
The mayor added that failure to comply with the memorandum will be dealt with accordingly, in compliance to all applicable laws, orders and other issuances.
Echiverri earlier issued Executive Order 024-05 enjoining public and private offices in the city to adopt and actively participate in the energy conservation program of the national government.
He said this is in line with Administrative Orders 126 and 103 issued by President Arroyo for the strict implementation of austerity measures, which would target at least a 10 percent reduction in the cost of consumption of fuel, electricity and other utilities.
He ordered all offices to refrain from using airconditioning units when adequate ventilation is available.
In cases where airconditioning units are to be used, employees are instructed to turn them on not earlier than 9 a.m. and turn them off not later than 4 p.m.
