Fire hits Tondo district

-
At least 40 families were rendered homeless after an hour-long fire hit a residential area in Tondo, Manila the other night.

More than P100,000 worth of properties were gutted by the blaze in Canal dela Reyna along Moriones st.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Wilson Pana said no one was injured in the blaze, which started at around 6:30 p.m. from the shanty of a certain Golem Santos.

The blaze reached the fifth alarm before it was put out at 7:19 p.m.

Firefighters admitted they had a hard time controlling the fire because of the narrow streets leading to the affected community. They had to use hose extensions to reach the burning shanties.

Pana said police are still investigating the cause of the fire. — Edu Punay
