An overseas performing artist was beaten to death and stuffed inside a cabinet before her body was discovered by housemates in Sta. Ana, Manila last Friday night.
The body of Egyfil Shane Tiu, 22, already in a near state of decomposition, was identified by her mother Teresa at the funeral morgue.
Tiu recently returned to the country after completing a six-month contract as an entertainer in Japan.
Following the discovery of the body, a Chinese national, reportedly the victims former live-in partner and the prime suspect in the crime, was rushed to the Ospital ng Maynila after drinking insecticide.
Police said Wang Ning, alias Mark Wang and Kent Huang, 29, of Tianjin, China, was discovered unconscious in another room of the apartment on Tejeron street in Sta. Ana.
A liter of a potent insecticide was found near his body.
Two female housemates told police a foul odor was coming from the suspects room last Thursday, but they ignored it, thinking it was just a dead rat.
They also saw the suspect spraying perfume inside his room.
The housemates said Wang, a casino player, frequently brings different girls to his room.
They also noticed that since the stench became noticeable, the suspect started to close the door of his room, which was not his habit.
Last Friday night, a certain "Cheska" entered the suspects room to borrow a hanger.
Nobody was around, but she was surprised to discover that the stench was coming from inside the wardrobe cabinet.
Out of curiosity, she opened the cabinet and saw a body wrapped in a bloodstained blanket.
She immediately sought the help of barangay officials.
The victim was in her underwear and had her silver necklace with a butterfly pendant.
Her face was swollen and bruised, with wads of cotton stuffed in her mouth and nostrils.
The victims mother said her daughter had been living with the suspect before she went to Japan last April.
When the victim returned last Oct. 13, she refused to see the suspect after learning that he was seeing other women while she was away.
The mother could only guess how her daughter ended up inside the suspects rented room.
She was able to identify her daughter through a scar on her back and the pendant she was wearing. The mother also claimed the suspect used to hang around with suspected Chinese gangsters.
In Marikina City, a construction worker stabbed his live-in partner before turning the knife on himself following a heated argument.
Both are in critical condition.
Melanie Caayon, 32, a resident of Bayabas street, Barangay Nangka in Marikina, was rushed to the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center for a stab wound in the body.
Suspect Noli Funilas, 37, a construction worker, was taken to the same hospital after stabbing himself three times.
PO2 Santa Rosa Malaque, of the Marikina Womens and Childrens Desk of the Marikina police, said the couple got into a heated exchange of words when a jealous Funilas confronted his partner over her alleged infidelity.
In his anger, he stabbed Caayon.
Funilas niece Emma Namia, 26, said her uncle, after realizing what he had done, attempted to kill himself with the same knife.
