Caloocan barangay chairman gunned down

-
By Jerry Botial and Pete LaudeFive armed men, arriving in two motorcycles, made sure their quarry was dead as they peppered with bullets a barangay chairman taking his merienda with a friend last Friday afternoon in Caloocan City.

Police said they are still stumped over the death of Feliciano Cabral, 67, a resident of Block 1, Lot 2 Victory Homes and chairman of Barangay 180. Cabral died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds in the head and back.

PO3 Joel Aquino, officer-on-case, said a bystander, identified as Leo Condo was hit in the right foot.

Cabral had just gone from playing a game of cards with friends earlier when, at around 1:30 p.m. the suspects arrived on board two motorcycles in the frontyard of 374 Senana steet, Miramonte Heights, Barangay 180, Caloocan City.

The suspects drew their weapons and, positioning their weapons in-between the grills of the iron fence, fired at will at the unsuspecting victim.

Police recovered some 22 empty shells from caliber .45 and 9 mm pistols at the scene of the crime.

Willie Cabral, the victim’s younger brother, said the chairman had no personal enemies in the area.

He said, however, that criminal elements affected by his brother’s all-out campaign against lawlessness in the barangay could be behind the slaying.

Police are conducting further investigation of the incident to determine the motive for the killing and the identity and whereabouts of the perpetrators.
