Makati to hold mega job fair
November 3, 2005 | 12:00am
The city government of Makati is set to hold another job fair to provide opportunities for qualified applicants, including persons with disabilities and those aged 40 to 45 years old.
Makati Citys Public Employment Service Office (PESO) will be organizing the mega job fair on Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City Hall Quadrangle.
Mayor Jejomar Binay said the mega job fair is the city governments way of showing its commitment to provide employment opportunities not only to city residents, but to non-Makati residents.
The mayor said the best way to help people cope with the difficult times is to give them a source of livelihood.
Binay acknowledged the support of more than 50 companies and agencies that have confirmed their participation in the event.
"The active participation of the business sector is crucial to the success of our efforts to help residents and non-residents find gainful employment," Binay said.
"I hope that all job seekers, especially our residents, will participate and take advantage of this opportunity."
Makatis PESO earlier reported that in the last three quarters of the year, some 7,568 job seekers have been hired by multinational and local companies through the Job Placement Program of the city government.
The localitys low unemployment rate, Binay said, can be attributed to weekly mini-job fairs and mega job fairs which were held in May and June.
The mayor said he is thankful for the support of companies and establishments taking part in the job fairs like SM Department Store and Supermarket; Toyota Pasong Tamo and Ortigas branches; Banco de Oro; apparel stores like Bench, Guess and Manels; and beauty specialty shops like The Body Shop and Lets Face It.
Binay said Tobys Sports Shop, Puyat Sports, Pepsi Cola, Maxs Restaurant, North Park Noodle House, Dencios Bar and Grill and Pancake House have also been very supportive.
"Take advantage of the opportunity to find jobs that fit you. Be productive and be proud of yourselves. These job fairs are for you," Binay said in a message to his constituents as well as non-Makati residents. Michael Punongbayan
