A policeman shot dead an alleged toughie when the latter went amuck and attacked him in their neighborhood Saturday night in Caloocan City.
Bernardo Granado, 38, a resident of Barangay 176 in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City North, sustained two bullet wounds in the body.
The suspect, SPO2 Pedro Polinga Jr., assigned at the Valenzuela City police Sub-Station 1, immediately surrendered to the Caloocan City police after the incident.
Polinga, the fatalitys neighbor, also surrendered his .9mm service pistol with its magazine loaded with 11 bullets including a 27-inch bolo Granado allegedly used in creating trouble in their area.
At around 9:45 p.m., Granado reportedly went berserk in their neighborhood and armed with a bolo, harassed the residents, police said.
Polinga tried to pacify Granado but the latter did not heed the cop and attacked him instead with his bolo.
This prompted Polinga to fire at Granado hitting his attacker twice.
But according to the victims mother, Lourdes, the melee involving her son happened earlier that night.
She said that her son had gone home but when he went out again later the cop shot him while he was walking not far from their house.
The Caloocan police are still investigating the incident.
In Navotas, JusesValle, 42, another neighborhood toughie, was killed when waylaid by two unidentified men before midnight on Saturday.
Valle, a known tough guy on Buenaventura st. in Barangay Tangos, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body.
The victim was walking along M. Naval corner Casenas streets in Barangay Tangos with his friend Benjamin Diaz, 30, when two men lurking in the dark fired at them.
SPO1 Milo Tengson said that Valle was hit several times in the head and body and was rushed by Diaz, who only sustained a wound in the left ear, to the hospital but Valle died along the way.
